Topguard® Fire Resistant’s burning behaviour has been tested by the Department of Textiles at the Ghent University.       

To this end, samples were delivered to the University. The first sample was tested length- as well as widthwise; the three subsequent tests were only conducted in the direction which proved to yield the worst results (in this case, lengthwise).

The samples were attached to a fibre-cement slab. They were set aflame using a pilot burner, after which they were irradiated for 10 minutes using a gas radiator at a 30 ° angle.
With combustible materials, the test is over once there are no more flames. If after 30 minutes this is still not the case, the test is terminated.

The testing criterion in this test is the burning length: from this, the radiation intensity is deduced based on a calibration curve.
These 4 laboratory tests showed that the radiation intensity of Topguard® Fire Resistant is over 8.0 kW/m², while smoke development is lower than 750 % min. Accordingly, Topguard® Fire Resistant is compliant with the most stringent European fire safety standard, the B _fl s1.
